Use Events As Social Capital. Go Out and Be Seen.
It's important to get out and about...and to share the event with your network.
When I was writing the 3rd volume of The UnNoticed Entrepreneur I had to find 50 different ways of writing the same message. Each entrepreneur told me that being out and engaging with people was their single most important marketing activity; especially when they were starting.
This week I went to an event at which Nelson Mandela's former body guard spoke here in Bath. Chris Lubbe is a now a motivational speaker, sharing the essential message of Mandela about the importance of humanity and forgiveness.
In itself it was good to listen to what other people were doing, and what the market may need, but it also created grist for the social media mill. No matter how much you feel awkward taking a selfie with a stranger, it's become the thing to do.

Posting this event to LinkedIn gave me the opportunity to tag others and to be tagged. It shows me as being connected. Within 12 hours I had 396 impressions and 15 likes. It's not exactly viral...but then again it's not informative but a summary of an event.
Chris mentioned at the end of the event that he wants to start a podcast. In which case, promoting him on LinkedIn is a great way to show good will and to start a relationship by giving first.
